Please Note: MY GOAL IN WRITING THIS BOOK WAS TO TELL YOU EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THESE TECHNIQUES. The instructions are clear, thorough and easy to understand with 69 images and illustrations to help you understand what I describe. Seventy pages are dedicated to that. The balance tells you what tools you need to do these techniques, how to have a safe shop, best standards of common woodworking techniques, my story as a woodworker and my philosophy of working with wood. I wrote each chapter so if you read only one chapter you will be able to understand and utilize that particular technique. To do that, I have repeated instructions for setting up a project in two of the chapters. What is important is that you learn these techniques and this is the only way you can do that. This book describes an entirely new form of woodworking. Although it looks like intarsia, marquetry and inlay, it is none of those. This is solid wood joined along curves and solid wood strips inserted into curved cuts. Whether you are an experienced woodworker or a novice you'll be able to understand and follow the instructions. (To see what I've made using this technique, go to www.marclamm.com.) Following are several highly abridged excerpts from the book. From Chapter 5: An Introduction to Curved Joinery: "Here's an illustration of why a curved joint is far stronger than a straight joint. Draw a straight line on a piece of paper. You can easily fold the paper along the line. Now, draw a curved line on a piece of paper and try to fold the paper along the curve. It can't be done. The same is true in a wood panel." In Chapter 7, Joining Boards Along A Curve: "Initially, while learning this technique, use boards which are no more than three feet long and eight inches wide. As you get comfortable with the process, you'll be able to work with longer and wider boards. The only limit on the width and length of the boards you use is your work space, your tools and your project facilitation skills."
